Taryn Leigh

OWNER & FOUNDER

The Sweet Spot

Our founder Taryn Leigh is an ambitious single mother-turned-entrepreneur who built Maui Jun Company from a vision to create a healthier kombucha beverage. Working with only a shoe-string budget since 2016, Taryn followed her vision to achieve these goals:

  1. To produce kombucha that’s easier on the body
  2. To use locally-sourced ingredients

Cane sugar has caused severe health issues for Taryn, so she experimented with alternative methods of fermentation. Maui Jun proudly utilizes local honey from Hawaiian island farms to ferment the beverage in place of cane sugar. Using honey sets us apart from other kombuchas and is easier on your digestive system.

Nostalgic Flavors to Savor

Taryn grew up enjoying soda pop which inspired her delightfully nostalgic soda-like flavors of which are a healthy alternative to what is currently being offered. This was the evolution of kombucha in the West, as we know it!

Within two weeks of offering the beautiful libation at Maui’s popular Saturday Upcountry Market, it was a verified hit! After six years of selling exclusively as a vendor at the Upcountry Market, Taryn moved into wholesale. Selling at the Upcountry Market earned the beverage a large following prior to landing on retail shelves. Using customer feedback from the market gave Taryn the opportunity to refine the final line-up of bottled flavors, supporting the beverage’s expansion into retail shops in Hawaii.

The Maui Jun Brewery

In 2021, Taryn retired from her career of twenty-three years as a remedial massage therapist in order to focus on the growth of Maui Jun Company. Since then, Taryn has built a large brewery and employs a passionate team committed to maintaining the integrity in which the company has been built upon.

Bee-ing Supportive

In addition to Taryn’s commitment to offering only the healthiest and most flavorful beverages on the market, she is also an active beekeeper supporting research in Colony Collapse Syndrome, Varroa Mite, and other bee-related issues. We give a percentage of company profits to the Honey Bee Health Coalition to support the ongoing research of Colony Collapse Syndrome.
